Water Quality Monitoring
HyLife™ works continuously at protecting our groundwater supply for today’s and future generations. To that end, HyLife’s™ Environmental Management Team is constantly monitoring and maintaining all of the company’s facilities. This includes a minimum of five annual inspections of each of our operations’ barns, yard, and manure storage facilities by members of the Environmental Management Team to ensure all aspects of the operation are within our strict guidelines. Groundwater quality in and around our facilities is tested annually as well as drinking water quality and quantity sampling within each operation. The results from these tests are then compiled analyzed and submitted to Manitoba Water Stewardship on an annual basis.
Nutrient Management
HyLife™ Ltd. has a specific objective to provide our partnering landowners with an excellent crop nutrient product in a consistent, safe and sustainable manner. To ensure this, HyLife™ conducts detailed GPS located soil sampling and analysis that serves as the basis point for our nutrient application rates. As members of the Environmental Management Team, HyLife™ employs professional agrologists who are certified to prepare manure management plans to develop and implement detailed and thorough nutrient management plans for each individual HyLife™ site. The Environmental Management Team is involved in each step of all on-farm manure application activities to ensure all activities are done in accordance with our high standards. This includes a rigorous in-field nutrient monitoring program constant monitoring of application activities and field conditions.
An integral component to HyLife™ Ltd. Environmental management system is the utilization of on-board GPS (global positioning system) technology with the manure application equipment. Realizing the value of the information and the usefulness of this tool, HyLife™ Ltd. now requires all manure applicators have GPS equipment installed and in use for all HyLife™ Ltd. operations. This allows HyLife™ to accurately monitor all manure management activities, ensure compliance of all field setback requirements and to avoid any potential application concerns. All data received is then incorporated into HyLife™ Ltd.’s GIS (Geographic Information System) database and is further analyzed. These two technologies have assisted HyLife™ in its day-to-day nutrient management activities as well as been an invaluable tool in developing our long-term nutrient management strategy.
